Prostitution is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment. Leonard Territo and George Kirkham define prostitution as one who sells sexual favors for money, products, or privileges (Territo Kirkham, 2010). There are different types of prostitution: street, escort/out-call, and brothel. Street prostitution is illegal throughout the United States and tends to be clustered in certain areas known for solicitation. Escort/out-call prostitution is where an agency arranges a meeting between one of it escorts and client at the customer’s house or hotel room; usually for sexual services. Brothel prostitution is a house where men can visit prostitutes (Brehman, 2008). In a research study done in 2014, by Printah Printer Nkala, looked at the origins of prostitution. His research found that the sex practice dated back to the â€Å"genesis of mankind†. He continues to exclaim that â€Å"It appears to have been in every age men who did not avail themselves to the marriage covenant, but drive by sexual instincts for illegitimate sexual pleasures who were satisfied by wicked women†. Prostitution exists in every society (Nkala, 2014). Some feel that prostitution provides an outlet that helps preserve marriages and intimate relationships by keeping men from having affairs (Brehman, 2008). And this isn t just an advantage for married people but also the disabled (Nkala, 2014).
